Earlier this week, I attended the Forces Transition Group 'Meet the Employer' event in Manchester, underneath the iconic Concorde! I was there to conduct the next series of recordings for my podcast Mission Employable UK® that will focus on those organisations that support our military families, not just the soldiers who have served.

There are moments when a room hums with purpose, when conversations, commitment and camaraderie converge into a clear, collective determination. The energy in the room from the start was electric. Veterans, serving personnel, employers, local leaders and support organisations shared the floor with one another. Conversations moved fast. The buzz wasn’t just enthusiasm, it was coordination, people aligning around real, deliverable commitments.

It was such a pleasure to witness Charlotte Kershaw sign the Armed Forces Covenant. Charlotte set up Mind2Muscle, supporting members of our community, including forces personnel access a range of support services. I had so many enlightening conversations, all with one clear purpose; working together.

This was echoed in Lancaster City Councils Armed Forces Steering group meeting that I attended yesterday. Chaired brilliantly by Kirsty Chekansky, a military spouse herself, the room was full of great conversations about working together. Local steering groups like these are vital, they translate national commitments into practical local actions, from housing and health referrals to skills training and employment pathways.

Participation matters. Momentum grows when people come together. That combination is what turns goodwill into results, better outcomes for veterans, stronger local partnerships, and clearer pathways into civilian lives and careers and I for one, am proud to be a part of it.
